Annotation:

Currently, the study of the social‑cultural activity history is impossible without penetration into the depths of Ancient Greece history, into its big and interesting heritage especially into the multiple forms of leisure activity. Forms of leisure of Ancient Greece have been widely presented in the work by V. M. Ryabkov “Anthology of cultural‑leisure activity forms”. The author of the article using the studies of such researchers as V. F. Asmus, E. D. Frolov, G. G. Voloshchenko, A. F. Losev, N. F. Maksyutin discloses some sides of leisure activity in Aristotle’s heritage. The article pays much attention to the philosophy work “Politics” by Aristotle in which Aristotle examined different sides of leisure activity. Aristotle who lived in the slave‑owning system epoch preferred the leisure activity of slave owners‑aristocrats. Justifying leisure activity as a defining start for all human activity Aristotle proposed “a judgment that leisure should be preferred to activity”, at the same time thinking of what reasonable forms should this leisure be filled with. Studying the work “Politics” by Aristotle the author of the article arrived at the conclusion that Aristotle considered leisure as a pleasure, happiness and joy but this pleasure falls not to everybody but only to the idle people, the people involved leisure activity. The article also considers the “high leisure” notion. The main function of high leisure is activity. Leisure has an activity character. In his work the author introduces into scientific usage of perfectly new notion determined by Aristotle “philosophy of leisure”. Philosophical ideas of Aristotle on leisure and his “philosophy of leisure” — are parting words to off‑springs in practical activity of leisure time organization. Today Aristotle’s ideas on leisure sound urgent and are in demand by the leisure science.
