The article considers the influence of certain factors on the development of the tourism and hospitality industry in the Russian Federation, namely, population incomes and exchange rate fluctuations. The interdependence of the level of nominal incomes of the population and their real content (nominal incomes adjusted for the consumer price index), exchange rates (US dollars and euros) and the demand for services of the tourist and recreation complex, as well as the influence of the above factors on the level of demand for external (entry and exit) are determined) and domestic tourism. The conditions were identified under which the vulnerability of domestic tourism increases: a fall in real incomes of the population, the pricing policy of domestic business (especially among hoteliers), which does not comply with economic principles, but aims to obtain higher profits in the face of reduced competition in the market; tariff policy for passenger transportation, especially by air; low quality of the services provided, etc. An assessment of changes in the income structure of the population was carried out and its correlation with the consumption of services of the tourist and recreation complex was determined. The most important trends in the tourism sector have been identified: a reduction in the duration of trips and, accordingly, time spent in collective accommodation facilities, the search for cheaper tours, a decrease in the number of visiting periods, the development of social tourism within the territory of residence, and the independent development of a tour. Promising areas for the development of the tourism and hospitality industry were identified: regionalism, the development of interregional social tourism (especially for families in difficult situations), an increase in the number of tourists of «silver» (older) age; tourists with disabilities, the development of new tourist destinations.
