The purpose of this research is to study various methods of working with aphorisms in practical classes in a foreign language. Studying the aphoristic statements in the target language increases the vocabulary, helps to learn the grammatical system of the language, introduces folk wisdom, expands and improves the student’s memory. In this article, the authors offer a variety of game techniques and creative tasks that are used to motivate the students’ interest in classes. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the analysis of aphorisms, which have great didactic potential in the context of creating intercultural communicative competence of students. With an intercultural approach, it is possible to identify what is veiled in another culture, learn to understand, analyze and perceive it, foster respect for one’s own culture and the culture of the language being studied, be able to see distinctive and similar features, mutually enrich and develop strategies for normative behavior in conditions of intercultural communication. The authors offer a large collection of German aphorisms that have been used in practical exercises to help students increase their vocabulary minimum, learn the grammatical system of the language, introduce folk wisdom, expand and improve memory. In concise, figurative statements expressing a complete thought, new foreign words are more easily remembered and learned. Aphorisms increase interest in the foreign language, help to develop linguistic intuition, contribute to the ability to reason with linguistic concepts. However, aphorisms used in classes in a foreign language should not only have didactic function, but also be simple in language terms, understandable in meaning and most importantly — stimulating the students to speak, reason and express their own opinion. The authors conclude that aphorisms help to develop linguistic intuition and contribute to the development of the ability to reason with linguistic terms. As a result, it is proved that the use of aphorisms effectively affects the cognitive activity of students, increases motivation to master a foreign language, and improves translation abilities. |
