The article attempts to analyze the reasons for the non-successful performance of highly qualified athletes at high rank competitions. Competitive activity is chosen as an object of study, the subject of the study is the mental state of an athlete, manifested in activities, and called the mental readiness of an athlete In the final part of the competitive activity there are two segments of competitive activity that are relevant to the athlete. The first segment is characterized by actualization of the need for achievement, including: the desire to achieve the maximum possible level of readiness of functions for their implementation; the athlete’s awareness of the level of their capabilities and the formation of a sense of confidence in achieving success. Positive, uncertain or negative thoughts about the results of the upcoming activity may appear in the athlete’s mind during this segment of the activity. This is due to the influence of pre-competition stress factors that took place in the athlete’s training (previous poor training and competition results, conflicts in the team with athletes, coach, thoughts about the need to achieve the goal, unsuccessful pre-competition training, etc.). In this period of time the level of development of the athlete’s emotional intelligence, manifested in the awareness of his or her state, the causes of its manifestation and finding the means and methods of its optimization, is essentially important. Actualization of the need to achieve success is the key to the formation of the athlete’s state of mental readiness for the successful passage of the second actual segment of the competitive activity — the final performance. At the second actual segment of the competitive activity (awareness of the need to achieve success) the formed state of mental readiness contributes to the achievement of the maximum possible result. Achievement of the goal (success) at this segment of the competitive activity is facilitated by: concentration of attention in the upcoming activity, developed ability to psychoregulation, developed emotional intelligence, full mobilization of technical, tactical and functional capabilities created at the previous segment, as well as manifestation of volitional qualities, psychological stability to achieve success and much more. |
