TO THE QUESTION OF THE DIRECTIONS OF INDUSTRIAL TOURISM RESEARCH

The article analyses the features of scientific research on industrial tourism, a relatively new type of tourism. The authors formulate the reasons for the growing popularity of industrial tourism. Based on the regulatory framework study of industrial tourism service provision (GOST R ISO 13810-2016) and articles presented in scientific electronic libraries (elibrary. ru and “CyberLeninka”) the authors emphasize the main directions of industrial tourism research. The synonymic meaning of the concept of “factory tourism” to industrial tourism is defined. Quantitative analysis for the period 2019—2021 devoted to different types of tourism shows an increase in industrial tourism interest among researchers. A comparative analysis of the articles highlights the main keywords (industrial heritage, factory tours, production tourism, post-industrial tourism, museumification of industrial sites, industrial culture, industrial heritage tourism, etc.), characterizing the significant variation in approaches to the study of industrial tourism. Different aspects of industrial tourism studies allow us to use an interdisciplinary approach. The authors highlight the main trends in the study of industrial tourism depending on the object of research in various areas (innovative direction of domestic tourism, a form of professional self-determination, a tool for territorial development, the target core of the cluster, a product of the “experience economy”, a way to organize public spaces, etc.). Also, the authors pay particular attention to the articles on the experience of industrial tourism application as a mechanism for territorial development. Based on the content analysis of publications, there is a conclusion about the need for a comprehensive approach to the research and development of industrial tourism involving representatives of all levels of government, the tourism industry, and researchers of various specializations.
