The activity of the Scientific Student Society of the Yaroslavl branch of the Financial University is analyzed. In the course of work on the topic proposed in the article, theoretical methods were used (analysis of pedagogical literature on the problem under consideration, analysis of documents, statistical data), design methods (development of measures aimed at solving organizational problems of SSSs). critical analysis of practical work experience. During the analysis, the Ishikawa diagram was used, which reflects the relationship of causal factors and indicators of the effectiveness of students’ research work. The system of causal factors is formed by the following indicators: methods of involving students in scientific activity; teaching staff; material and technical equipment; motivation of students; external environment. The structure of the scientific student society of the Yaroslavl branch of the Financial University is considered. The problems that negatively affect the development of the SSS of the Yaroslavl branch of the Financial University and hinder the active participation of students in research activities are identified: first, their weak involvement, second, an undeveloped motivation system; third, poor informing; fourth, a poorly developed system of “feedback” on the results of students’ scientific activities; fifth, the lack of integration of students into interuniversity research. The authors propose specific ways out of the current situation. The proposed measures can be used in higher education to solve the problems of increasing the effectiveness of students’ scientific activities.
