SPIRITUAL, MORAL AND CULTURAL VALUES IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE CLASSES AT A NON-LINGUISTIC UNIVERSITY

Annotation: The article examines the issues of formation and spiritual and moral development of students` personality of in the context of studying a foreign language, taking into account the traditions and values of Russian culture, as well as Ortho- dox Christianity as the culture-forming religion of Russia. It is noted that the subject “Foreign Language” differs from other academic disciplines in its connection with the personality of the teacher, as a native speaker of the language and culture, and at the same time with intercultural communication and an appeal to the field of spiritual culture and traditional values. Consequently, the interaction of religious and secular compo- nents has an enduring practical significance both in second- ary school and at university within the framework of the course “Foreign Language”. The authors emphasize the relevance of including topics aimed at studying religion, traditions, and national customs of peoples in the curriculum. This contributes to the development of students’ linguistic competences, analyt- ical abilities, and the skills of communication — professional, social and everyday in the state language of the Russian Fed- eration, as well as in the foreign languages studied. The authors share their accumulated experience in this area in organizing work on the topic of education of moral and spiritual values in a foreign language. The relevance of the materials is due to the need to find effective means of forming linguistic, as well as communicative and moral competences. The results of our study can be useful for developing educational materials, effec- tive strategies for working programs of the discipline in teach- ing students a foreign language in interaction with the cultural traditions and moral values of our country.
