FACTORS DETERMINING THE SUCCESS OF AN ATHLETE’S ADAPTATION AT THE STAGE OF CAREER COMPLETION TO STUDYING AT A SPORTS UNIVERSITY

Annotation: The problems of first-year students’ adaptation to university education are traditional, significant for pedagogi- cal science and practice, while it becomes particularly relevant when it comes to a sports university, where first-year students are, as a rule, active athletes, as well as athletes at the stage of completing their careers. In this sense, there is a layering of two problems, educational and personal, from which the pre- conditions of a crisis state emerge, the prevention and over- coming of which is a significant task of the university teaching staff. The purpose of the article is to classify the external and internal factors that determine the socio-psychological, edu- cational, and later professional adaptation of student athletes in the educational environment of the university. The research methods used are: analysis of best practices and innovative technologies for the adaptation of student athletes to studying at a sports university, questionnaires and tests using propri- etary techniques, collection and analysis of empirical data, as well as their statistical processing and graphical interpretation. The result of the study is a classification of the main external and internal factors that determine the success of an athlete’s adaptation at the stage of career completion to studying at a sports university. The study identifies the main motivators and qualities that contribute to improving the effectiveness of adap- tation, formed during an active sports career; the most sig- nificant potential areas of support for student athletes during their adaptation to studying at the university are presented. The article can be recommended for student athletes who are at the stage of completing their careers, to the teaching staff of sports universities, as well as to coaches and teachers who implement career guidance and social adaptation programs in relation to their students.
