ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AS A TOOL TO INCREASE ACCESSIBILITY OF PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSISTANCE TO STUDENTS

Annotation:

This article is devoted to the problem of ensuring the availability of psychological assistance to students of pedagogical and psychological training in the conditions of digitalization of the university. The authors analyze the possibilities of artificial intelligence technologies as a tool for psychological support of students. The hypothesis about the effectiveness of digital tools based on artificial intelligence, such as chatbots and virtual assistants, for solving a number of psychological problems of students is put forward. The article focuses on the potential of digital tools in the provision of primary psychological assistance and prevention, as well as a means of expanding the functionality of the psychological support system implemented by the university and educational organizations in the region. This article presents a review of scientific literature devoted to the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the field of mental health. The authors have carried out a comparative analysis of a number of common neural network models, including Character.AI, Google Gemini, ChatGPT and YandexGPT, in order to assess their potential for psychological support. The paper contains the authors’ interpretation of the results of a questionnaire survey conducted at Novgorod and Kaluga State Universities, which aims to identify the main needs of students in obtaining psychological assistance using AI solutions. In addition, the paper examines the barriers that prevent students from turning to psychological specialists in higher education. The empirical data indicate the difference in the attitude to their psychological well-being among students of pedagogical and psychological specialties, as well as the high level of psychological burden on modern students. Expert interviews with practicing psychologists allow us to assess the quality of recommendations generated by various neural network models. The authors conclude about the prospects and limits of using artificial intelligence technologies in the system of psychological assistance to students, emphasizing the importance of preserving the role of qualified psychologists.
