IDENTIFICATION OF THE OBJECT OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: A POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC APPROACH

The article presents the results of a study of the development of the conceptual framework of general economic theory and the theory of sustainable development. The purpose of the study is to confirm the lack of integrity of the perception of the economy as a system in the concept of sustainable development, which causes a level gap in the construction of subject-object interactions of the mechanism for ensuring sustainable development. The methodological basis of the research was the provisions of economic theory, the theory of economic systems, and the concept of sustainable development. The system and structural level approaches, logical method, methods of analysis and synthesis were used. As a result of the conducted research, the main methodological systemic problems affecting the implementation of the concept of sustainable development were identified. Based on the content analysis of the definitions of the system, the basic requirements for its identification were established, which was taken as the basis for the formulated definition of the meta-level system “nature — society — man“. The proposed refinement of the definition of the “nature — society — man“ system based on a targeted approach has a scientific novelty. This proposal has theoretical significance for the development of the methodology of general economic theory and the concept of sustainable development. The practical significance of the research results lies in the fact that the authors show level-based gaps and failures in theoretical and practical approaches to the implementation of the sustainable development concept, the elimination of which will allow achieving further harmonization in the “nature — society — man” system and the Sustainable Development Goals. The results obtained can serve as the basis for further theoretical research in the field of sustainable development of systems at various levels.
