Volgograd Region–2010: the potential for innovation development

Possibilities of transition of Volgograd region to the new technological lifestyle and innovative development have been reviewed in the article. The elements of structure of new technological lifestyle and the innovative potential of the region in the area of intellectual developments and their practical use have been demonstrated. Financial and investment and infrastructural problems have been revealed that led to low investment activity of enterprises and intensified during the global financial crisis. Possibilities of transition to new technological lifestyle and new quality of development have been reviewed for the entire Volgograd region that had significant economic and investment potential before the crisis, however, was not traditionally included in the list of leaders in investment development in compliance with the indices of scientific capacity, localization of scientific potential, and innovation activities.
