Annotation:

The article examines the issue of formation of the ethno‑cultural competence of pupils. One of the priority directions of development of the modern education system is connected with the process of formation of a personality oriented towards the ethno‑culture and at the same time towards adoption of the multinational Russian culture. According to the authors, the study of issues related to ethno‑cultural competence, as well as the conditions of its formation, is of theoretical and practical interest in the preservation and transmission of folk traditions, as well as the study of the traditions and customs of other nations. Therefore, importance must be given to the preservation of the identity of each people. In the educational institution, extracurricular activities can be a mechanism of formation of the students’ ethno‑cultural competence, during which they master theoretical knowledge, develop social experience, and develop interpersonal interaction skills. The acquisition of these skills has a certain impact on resolution of conflict situations, as well as on a respectful and positive attitude towards people of different cultures. Therefore, a modern person needs to develop ethno‑cultural competence that helps to feel freely in all aspects of interpersonal communication. In our opinion, one of the important tasks of modern pedagogical knowledge is consideration of the specifics of ethno‑cultural competence. This issue, according to the authors, is especially important for today’s multicultural Russia. Its resolution is correlated with many urgent tasks that relate to harmonious interaction in a multicultural society. In this regard, one of the most important problems is development of the ethno‑cultural competence of Russian citizens.
