The subject of the study is the University in the knowledge economics. The purpose of the article is to analyze and rethink the basic functions of the University, to identify new functions of the University in the context of the modern economy. The processes of globalization and internationalization of national systems, the formation of a new socio‑economic era require the transformation of higher education and rethinking the functions of the University, reflecting the interaction between education, science and innovation, which are key factors in the development of society. As the formation and formation of the knowledge economy significantly increases the requirements for the education system as a whole, the institution of education becomes a key factor in the economic and social development of society. The article deals with the functions of the University from the perspective of researchers of different eras in the process of changing the socio‑economic phase (pre‑industrial, industrial, post‑industrial society), such as educational (educational), research, educational, social functions. On the basis of the conducted research the author’s classification of University functions in the conditions of formation and development of knowledge economy, reflecting both rethinking and transformation of basic functions and formation of new ones (transfer of knowledge, integrator of knowledge, the function of mass formation of competencies). It is shown that the activity of universities in the conditions of formation and development of the knowledge economy is accompanied by a review and update of its mission and functions. Thus, the activity of universities in the conditions of formation and development of the knowledge economy is accompanied by a review and update of its mission and functions. It is supposed to be expedient to form a new model of the University, the main task of which is the acquisition of such characteristics as competitiveness, innovation, resistance to changes in the environment. |
