The article presents the materials of the study of the results of pistol shooting from combat weapons in sport shooters aged 25—30. Sport shooters performed at several competitions. The results of the analysis of protocols for the shooting competitions showed the insufficiently high (or even low) efficiency of competitive activity. The competition was attended by 22 shooters from the military unit No. 3695 of Angarsk. Nine of them completed an exercise in shooting from combat hand-held small arms for the second category (242—248 points). The rest of the athletes revealed a low level of competitive performance, which does not correspond to the result, assuming any sports category. We have made an attempt to identify the reasons for this performance. For this purpose, a number of psychological qualities of shooters were tested: noise immunity, ability to regulate psychic processes, speed and accuracy of mental operations, personal anxiety, properties of the nervous system (strength, mobility, balance). The analysis of the test results indicates a low level of their formation, which, in our opinion, determines the low effectiveness of the competitive activity of shooters. To test this assumption, a correlation analysis was performed. The conducted correlation analysis showed an average and high correlation of the performance of competitive activity with the specified psychological qualities, which may indicate the influence of the tested psychological qualities on the prestart state of the athlete and the results of shooting. Taking into account the revealed relationship and the results of the analysis of special psychological literature, we have compiled two sets of psycho-technical exercises (mental and concentration). This set of exercises was included in the psychological training of shooters of the experimental group in preparation for the competition. The exercises were applied before each training session for 10—15 minutes for six months. After completing classes on the development of psychological qualities, the shooters of the experimental and control groups took part in competitions. At the end of the six-month pedagogical experiment, a significant increase in the level of development of psychological qualities and the results of shooting at competitions was recorded in the experimental group.
