Ethnic diversity, the processes of population migration, the increasing pace of globalization and internationalization make the issues of intercultural communication particularly relevant. Currently, there are many tools for assessing the intercultural (cultural) competence of medical workers. The aim of the study was to review evidence-based intercultural competence self-assessment questionnaires for health professionals, teachers and students. 15 scientific publications were selected for the review. The inclusion criteria were the period of publication (2000—2022) and the presence of the following keywords: cultural competence, indicators of assessment of intercultural competence, cultural competence, intercultural communication, medical professionals. The analysis of literary sources made it possible to identify 48 evidence-based methods for assessing intercultural competence, of which 6 are described in this article: CSES, CAS, IAPCC-R, IAPCC-SV, TSET, SAICS. All of the listed assessment tools have been tested in scientific studies and have a high level of validity. The authors of the methods are united in their approaches to the assessment of intercultural competence, trying to cover all 3 domains: knowledge, skills and attitude. The methods described in this article can be used by scientists in the study of the level of intercultural competence of medical workers, as well as medical education organizations to evaluate the effectiveness of academic programs or specialized advanced training programs. Since the provision of culturally competent health care is essential for an ethnically diverse population, measuring cultural competence and its impact on patient outcomes should be a priority for future research. This review covers only a part of the existing methods for assessing intercultural competence. A similar review is planned for other assessment tools in the future. |
