Bobsleigh is a sport that, regardless of traditional types of training, involves introducing exercises and sets of exercises into the training process to develop the volitional qualities of an athlete’s personality at the initial stage of training. The purpose of the study is to identify the influence of bobsledders’ volitional qualities on the competition results. The introduction of the skeleton sports equipment in the competitive period is the main means of developing volitional qualities. The following research methods are applied: survey, observation, testing, and expert evaluation. Survey. It is important to explain to the athlete before performing a certain exercise (in the preparatory period it is the start acceleration on the trestle, in the competition period it is the descent on the skeleton) the technique of execution. Observation, a method that identifies the positive and negative sides of an athlete when performing a particular exercise, gives us a visual component of his/her psychological readiness. Testing confirms how effective the performance of exercises that develop the volitional qualities of bobsleigh athletes in the first year of training is. Evaluation of test results gives us the opportunity to understand and determine the indicator of the level of readiness of an athlete at this stage of training. The results of the study were an indicator of the stability f the ice track by athletes in competitions held in 2019—2020. Conclusions. The means and methods used in the training process to develop volitional qualities in young bobsledders at the initial stage of training had a positive impact on their performance in the competitions of the 2019—2020 season. The difference between the average of the first and second descents at the first competition was 0.16 seconds, at the final 0.07 seconds, which was confirmed by the method of mathematical statistics using Student’s t-test. |
