With the deterioration of the country’s resource base and the need to unlock the potential of hard-to-recover reserves, Russian oil companies are making digitalization a strategic priority. A possible breakthrough in this direction is based on the use of advanced domestic technologies, the main role among which is played by intelligent technologies that determine the ability of oil and gas companies to carry out digital modernization, without which their survival in the global oil market is impossible. The study substantiates the need for the introduction and use of digital technologies in the oil and gas sector of the economy, and also analyzes the development of domestic digital technologies for the needs of the industry. The author shows that the introduction of digital technologies makes it possible to reduce the cost of hydrocarbon production due to the simultaneous increase in labor productivity and increase in field production. Digital technologies allow you to optimize costs and eliminate risk factors associated with the human factor. It was revealed that despite all the advantages of introducing digital technologies, at present the oil and gas industry has not yet undergone a digital transformation, continuing to be heavily dependent on software of foreign origin. As recommendations for overcoming the difficulties associated with the development of Russian digital software solutions, the following are proposed: legislative registration of the requirements for the use of Russian-made software and the provision of necessary state support to software manufacturers, deepening inter-industry cooperation between oil and gas companies and software manufacturers; targeted support for universities with the necessary scientific potential. The digital transition of the oil and gas industry will improve the performance of the information technology industry by creating demand for the development, technical support and maintenance of products, as well as through joint cooperation in the process of creating new software solutions.
