Investments play an important role in creating a system of sustainable regional development in a constantly changing market environment. For older industrial regions facing challenges such as outdated production facilities, declining employment, and population outflows, financial investments can be a catalyst for a shift in the development model away from dependence on traditional industries. This article examines existing ratings used to assess the investment attractiveness of Russian regions. Based on this data, it was concluded that there is a need for a more in-depth analysis of the specific trends and potential of older industrial regions in Southern Russia, such as Astrakhan, Volgograd, and Rostov. Within the scope of existing ratings, attention is focused on traditional economic indicators, while historical and structural factors are disregarded, leading to an incomplete understanding of the unique characteristics of these areas. The contribution of key industries in the regions to the gross regional product has been assessed. It has been revealed that the Volgograd and Rostov regions have more diversified economies, while the Astrakhan region has half of its activity in extractive industries. An analysis of statistical indicators of investment resources has been carried out, reflecting their unstable dynamics. As part of identifying specific factors of investment attractiveness in old-industrial regions, a SWOT analysis has been conducted to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for investment in these regions. This analysis will lay the foundation for developing measures aimed at attracting investment and promoting long-term sustainable development. |
