The development of agricultural human capital is critical in the era of the digital economy and is a key challenge necessary for the successful transformation of the agricultural sector. Agriculture has unique characteristics that affect the formation and development of human capital. Weak development of agricultural enterprises, lack of understanding of the economic benefits of human capital development lead to a lack of interest in investment, and ineffective relationships between educational institutions and employers make it difficult to train workers to meet market needs. Serious factors reducing the rural population are lack of career prospects, growth of unemployment and reduction of the general standard of living in rural areas. All this is confirmed by the analysis of the ratio of urban and rural population in Russia, which showed the dynamics of decline in the rural population, from 39232 thousand people in 2000 to 36706 thousand people in 2023, on average by 1.06% per year. Due to the suspension of economic development and the extinction of rural areas, the number of people employed in agriculture from 2021 to 2023 also decreased significantly, from 4554 thousand to 4466 thousand people. A modern employee in the agricultural sector must possess certain basic digital competences, including digital literacy, digital communications, digital security and digital consumption. For the successful application of digital technologies in agriculture, it is necessary to overcome a number of problems that hinder the process of their implementation. At the same time, digitalization has a significant impact on the economy, providing new opportunities for the development of agricultural human capital.
