Against the backdrop of intensifying Russian-Chinese educational cooperation and the growing influx of Chinese students into Russian universities, the challenges of their academic and sociocultural adaptation have gained particular significance. This study presents a comprehensive analysis of factors hindering the successful adaptation of Chinese students into the educational environment at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation. The methodological framework employs a mixed-methods approach combining online surveys (N = 82) conducted via Yandex.Forms platform, statistical data processing with Cronbach’s alpha coefficient calculation (0.815) using SPSS software, frequency analysis of responses, and content analysis of respondents’ textual comments. The findings reveal and systematize adaptation determinants across two key dimensions: cross-cultural and institutional factors. Cross-cultural barriers encompass fundamental differences in educational paradigms (Russia’s practice-oriented model vs China’s exam-focused theoretical system) and communication practices (subject-subject vs subject-object interaction patterns in academic settings). Institutional adaptation challenges include inclusive education in mixed groups, lack of differentiated assessment approaches for academic performance, and substandard living conditions. Based on the analysis, the study proposes an optimization framework featuring specialized cultural adaptation programs, development of bilingual learning materials, and improvements in residential facilities. A key research prospect involves developing a universal adaptation model applicable to various ethnocultural groups of international students. The results hold substantial practical value for enhancing international education policies at the Financial University and other Russian higher education institutions. |
