Technological progress, particularly the advancement of neural network technologies, has transformed translation practices due to the ambiguous nature of post-editing and the definition of post-editorial competence components. The identified trends have necessitated a revision of the translator training system. in higher education, particularly regarding the interaction between translators and machine output, which occurs at the post-editing stage. Despite active research into post-editing as a phenomenon in the translator’s practice, there is no unified terminological system accepted by science community defining its specific content and application in the translator’s practice. There is also no clear understanding of how post-editing integrates into translation discourse. Additionally, a scientifically grounded strategy for studying the subjective characteristics of a post-editing activity is lacking. The need to investigate post-editing as a component of the translator’s discursive activity has emerged. The novelty of the study lies in the author’s definition of post-editing as a specific discursive activity of the translator, which is central, conscious, and complete in nature, performed by a specialist using a machine translation output to correct errors in order to achieve the required level of quality in the final translation text in the shortest possible time and with minimal effort, while making maximum use of the machine translation output. The practical significance of the study lies in clarifying the planned outcomes of translator training during the period of widespread development of machine translation and digital translation tools, which makes it possible to update the content of translator training and, in general, improve the quality of educational programs at the higher education level.
