Article contains the analysis of the tendencies and prospects of development of the city agglomerations of the modern Russia. The special attention is given to detection of specific features of formation of the post-industrial agglomerations (strengthening of innovative nature of development of economics, active embedding into the global economic processes, complication of structure and functional connections). The important place is allocated for disclosure of the tendency to polycentrism in development of the city agglomerations of Russia, for the characteristic of the city agglomerations of the second order and their roles in the structure of large agglomeration formations.
