Modern geographical education is undergoing a stage of updating its content. In the context of globalization and constantly emerging problems and contradictions that have a universal character of manifestation, the key theme of school geographical education at the higher school level can be the global problems of humanity, the study of which will not only form a set of educational results, fixed by the regulatory documents, but also help students to form a global type of thinking and behavior, ensure the formation of a value attitude to the surrounding reality and understanding the significance of their own activities, aimed at ensuring the sustainability and balance of development of all mankind. However, the existing practice of teaching geography at the level of general secondary education shows that the topic of global problems of humanity is not fully disclosed in most of the textbooks used. In this regard, the issue of reviewing approaches to the study of global problems of humanity and designing methodological support for their study is topical, contributing to the formation of students’ value attitude to the surrounding reality. This article defines the content bases for studying global problems of humanity in six contexts that have a personal aspect for students. The article presents a system of methodological support of the process of studying global problems of humanity both at the classes and extracurricular activities which is a set of goal-oriented (goal-ideal and goal-means, correlated with the components of study: cognitive, praxiological and axiological), content-oriented (contexts of studying global problems and levels of their consideration), procedural (means-navigators, means-“filters” and means of expressing attitudes and positions), and performance-evaluation blocks.
