This article is devoted to the problem of motivational capacity of the text implemented in the Russian language classes at higher school. In the practice of teaching Russian, motivational opportunities are not always identified beforehand, and then implemented in the process of working with the text, often they are not fully utilized at the classroom. The author’s motivational capacity is understood as the initial conditions that exist in the text and can affect the activity of the student and his educational activities. Their significance is connected with the need to maintain a positive attitude of the student to the material being studied and, more broadly, to the study of the Russian language. The task of the teacher is to pre-evaluate the motivational capacity of the text and correlate it with the nature of the planned lesson. The criteria for this assessment, according to the author, are the content characteristics of the text, the main of which are of informative, problematic, debatable, entertaining and emotional nature. During the preliminary assessment of the motivational capacity of the text, a sequence of stages is proposed, due to the prevailing content feature. At the same time, from the point of view of the formal aspect, the text should not be overloaded with grammatical constructions, since only a good balance between the meaning and the structure will allow the teacher to justify the students’ need for learning the language using linguistic resources of the lesson. According to the author, various forms of work with the text allow the teacher to stimulate the cognitive interest of students, their desire for mental activity and creativity. In addition, it has a positive impact on the formation of communicative motivation, motivation associated with the need for social cooperation, spiritual and moral motivation.
