The article examines one of the most important trends in using multimedia technologies while teaching English. The main aim of Foreign Language teaching is formation of the foreign language communicative competence, which can be achieved in different ways. Foreign language learning is maintained separately from the native language environment and requires generating real situations of communication, which is not complicated at the present stage of technology development. The type of lesson under study can be classified as a non-standard lesson. The latter is often used in teaching foreign languages, as such lessons make the process of education more interesting for students, lead to increase motivation, and widen culture scope of students. There are different types of non-standard lessons, but they are based on the interdisciplinary links, which requires both teachers and students to be more inquisitive and observant. The “Virtual Tour” lesson requires preliminary work. The lesson consists of three stages. During the first stage it is necessary to eliminate lexical and country study difficulties before watching the tour. The second stage is watching the tour. The third stage comprises students’ comprehension testing and discussion of results. Using new information technologies in teaching the English language helps to develop and improve teaching process, to optimize working with information, and to pay more attention to developing students’ mental abilities, grammar, lexical and speaking skill.
