The article is devoted to the issue of forming readiness for acquisition of universal learning activities in children of older pre-school age in the course of the game of chess. Acquisition of universal learning activities is a key objective of education in the primary and secondary school. By the end of the preschool period it is necessary to form communicative, personal, cognitive and regulatory readiness to master universal learning activities. The game of chess has a high potential for forming readiness for acquisition of universal learning activities in children of older pre-school age. In the pre-school period the dominant activity is playing, while in the school age it is studying. The game of chess has features of both a game and a study activity, which makes it possible to use it as a “bridge” for transition from playing to studying and for forming readiness for acquisition of universal study activities. The author of the article has worked out a system of methods aimed at forming readiness for acquisition of universal study activities in children of older pre-school age in the course of a chess game. Implementation of these methods includes three stages: the motivational stage, the game stage, and the stage of arbitrary behavior. In order to prove the efficiency of the system of methods aimed at forming readiness for acquisition of universal study activities in children of older pre-school age in the course of a chess game a diagnostic procedure has been organized and carried out. The results of this procedure show that mastering the ability to play a game of chess through the system of methods elaborated by the author of the article boosts development of communicative, regulative and personal readiness for acquisition of universal learning activities. Besides, this system of methods supports the children’s cognitive activity during chess classes. At the same time, there is no transition of this cognitive activity to other classes of the developmental field. |
