According to the International Labor Organization, Russia ranks fifth in the world (after the United States, India, the Philippines and Ukraine) in terms of the number of people employed through digital labor platforms. The platforms have had the greatest impact on jobs that do not require special training and qualifications: the work of couriers, one-time services, etc. Work through the platforms, as a rule, is unstable, which leads to an increase in labor protests. The scientific problem is the lack of knowledge and information about the features of platform employment. The article systematizes the main trends in the development of digital labor platforms in the context of the pandemic. Based on the analysis of the reporting materials of the International Labor Organization, the data of the Crunchbase portal, the corporate reporting of Yandex-Taxi, an increase in the number of transactions, income, and the number of persons involved in platform employment is revealed. Digital labor platforms simplify the interaction between participants in economic relations, contribute to the growth of labor productivity, and reduce costs due to economies of scale. However, with undoubted advantages, they carry a number of challenges, threats and risks. The following problems are identified: the uncertain legal status of those providing services through the platforms, hyper-exploitation, reduced social protection. The rapid development of platforms can increase gender inequality. The lack of legislative regulation at the moment is partially compensated by the development of self-regulation mechanisms. The article justifies the need to provide labor law guarantees to all workers, regardless of their form of employment. In the conditions of the digital economy, platform employment will develop rapidly, leading to significant shifts in social and labor relations, which requires further research and the development of a state policy for regulating platform employment.
