With the introduction of inclusive education, socio-pedagogical and socio-psychological problems of interpersonal relations in school have escalated. The most significant problem of inclusive education is intolerance of children with disabilities. Inclusive education suggests equality of position and requires acceptance of anyone with disabilities. Such an educational philosophy requires a revision of the system of educational work in school. This study is an attempt to highlight significant psychological and pedagogical points in working with adolescents. The focus of attention in the study was the gender characteristics of the attitude of adolescents to peers with disabilities. The examinees were 123 teenagers aged 11-12 who study in inclusive classes. For diagnostics, the method “Communicative Tolerance Questionnaire” proposed by V. V. Boiko was used. Significant differences were obtained in a number of indicators showing that girls demonstrate a significantly lower level of tolerance towards peers with disabilities, compared to boys of the same age. The most significant differences relate to such manifestations as “Acceptance or non-acceptance of another person’s personality, their characteristics”, “Conservativeness and categoricalness in the assessment of people”, “Tendency to adjust others to themselves”. Rigid and categorical positions of girls towards peers with disabilities may be the result of learned gender stereotypes and patterns borrowed, including from female teachers. The obtained patterns can be used when conducting trainings with adolescents on the formation of tolerance towards people, and can also be taken into account when planning educational work in adolescent classes of inclusive schools. |
