FORMATION OF REGIONAL IDENTITY, THREATS ANALYSIS

The scientific article provides an overview of the theoretical and practical approaches to the definition of regional identity and the need for its formation and using. The author pays attention to the spatial, cultural, socio-economic differences between regions. The attempt to keep the leading positions in the ranking of territories contributes not to increasing the potential of the territory, the region, but increases the rivalry between them, which is a threat to the formation of regional identity. The article presents conditions for forming regional identity in the era of digitalization, the provision of public services in similar ways throughout the country. Pursuit to economic national security is enshrined in strategic documents, which are also aimed at developing regions as an integral foundation for the entire country. The author makes an attempt to compare K. Marx’s scheme of “base and superstructure” with what regional identity (as a regional level of political, economic processes) and the state (as a decision-making center) are. The article makes a remark that the region, in conjunction with regional identity, can act as a social element of political processes, that is, be considered as population, as an individual. Then the formation of regional identity is influenced precisely by the policy aimed at population needs’ satisfaction, at increasing human potential of the region. When considering a region as a subject of the federal structure, the author pays attention to the current state of relations between the regions, the conditions for their coexistence. Current levels of the regions’ development, their spatial gaps and their desire to harmonize themselves are the factors that shape the contour of regional identity and its ability to ensure national security.
