Annotation: The quality of higher education is assessed not only by the development of students’ professional competences, but also, which is especially relevant in modern Russia, by the for- mation of attitudes towards professional development, selfreali- zation in the profession in the specialty of study at the university. The student contingent is represented by two directions: focused on the life of young people and focused on obtaining a profes- sion. The educational environment of the university, especially the peda gogical one, includes not only discipline, practice, educa- tional activities, but also the teacher. The study is devoted to identi- fying such personal characteristics of teachers that, in the opinion of students, have a positive effect on their professional motivation to study at the university and find employment in the profession. The results are a qualitative analysis of indepth interview data with a special sample. It included participants in professional competitions, hackathons, and leadership education programs. During the interview, the participants reconstructed the events for preparation and participation in competitions, projects, training in avantgarde programs, highlighted personal meanings and analyzed the role of teachers mentors in affirming professional attitudes for further education and professional activity. Compar- ison of interview texts in the open coding procedure allowed us to identify the following characteristics of teachersmentors who, in the opinion of students, had a positive impact on the consoli- dation of their professional intentions: high performance without external motivation; focus on the success of students as a result of their activities; emotional upsurge, optimism, manifestation of satisfaction from the work and the ability to see individuals with passionate traits among teachers and students and involve them in projects. The results of selective coding allow us to correlate the identified characteristics with the concept of pedagogical pas- sionarity of a mentor. The spread of passionate characteristics to educational and professional communities was revealed.
