The article presents the results of a study of the
problem of preparing pedagogical university students to form
primary school students’ functional literacy. Functional litera-
cy is a new educational outcome of primary general education,
introduced into the federal state educational standard in 2021.
The emergence of a new educational outcome necessitates pre-
paring future teachers at a pedagogical university. Scientific
understanding of the problem of preparing future primary school teachers to form functional literacy of younger students begins
with the definition of methodological approaches. The study was
carried out with the focus on the competencebased approach.
The competence-based approach is used in various modern sci-
entific disciplines: economic, psychological and pedagogical
ones. The lack of uniformity in the understanding of the term
“approach” in scientific sources is noted, the scientists’ points
of view considering the competencebased approach as an
approach to the study of a scientific problem or as an approach to
practical activities is highlighted. The study was carried out as an
interdisciplinary one based on the understanding of the conceptu-
al and terminological apparatus of various scientific disciplines.
Methodology of crossdisciplinary research examines various
interpretations of the essential characteristics of the concepts of
competence and competency, which are used in school pedagogy
and professional pedagogy with generalization and systematiza-
tion at the level of general pedagogy. Broad and narrow interpre-
tations of the concept of competencebased approach are noted:
the term in a broad sense is used in general pedagogy in rela-
tion to the integration of an individual into society, in a narrow
sense in professional pedagogy in relation to a person’s mastery
of professional activity methods. The correspondence of the level
of educational outcomes (elementary and functional literacy and
professional competency) with the types of solved tasks and the
formation of different types of competencies is established. |
