The Republic of Buryatia is the largest region in Russia in terms of forest area and forest resources. The specific nature of the region’s development means that these forests perform numerous ecological functions related to maintaining the region’s biodiversity. It should be noted that the trends in the development of forestry in the region depend not only on its natural and climatic conditions but also on the negative impact of the environment and increasing anthropogenic pressure. The main reasons for this situation are primarily violations of forestry legislation, the fire situation in forests, and the depletion of operational timber reserves. All of this affects the changes in the volume and structure of expenditures on reforestation, protection of forest areas, and is dependent on the size of gross regional product (GRP). In this context, the authors have set a goal to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the correlation between economic indicators and forestry in the region based on processing a large array of data. For the sustainability of forest resources, investments are primarily required. In the republic, there is a trend where expenditures on forest protection do not exhibit clear trends or seasonal fluctuations, while investments in ensuring the protection, safeguarding, and reproduction of forest resources show a tendency to increase. At the same time, there is a close correlation between the size of GRP and these expenditures. To enhance the efficiency of forest use and reforestation, various state and departmental targeted programs for the development of fo restry are being developed by the government. For example, in the Republic of Buryatia, the State Program “Development of Forestry” is being implemented, approved by Resolution No. 672 of the Government of the Republic of Buryatia dated December 29, 2015 (with amendments as of January 13, 2025). |
