The article analyzes the transformation of the payment infrastructure in the Russian banking sector under sanctions pressure. It considers the main consequences of disconnecting Russian banks from SWIFT, the termination of international payment systems such as Visa and MasterCard. The focus is on the development of the national payment infrastructure, the national payment system “Mir” and the Faster Payments System. The stages and directions of banks’ adaptation to new challenges are described, including the impact of domestic payment instruments on the sustainability of internal and external settlements, the formation of alternative cross-border channels, and the reduction of currency and operational risks. Special attention is given to the transformation of customer service: the article highlights changes in consumer behavior, the rise of digital channels, expanded functionality of banking applications, and the development of personalized services. The research substantiates the role of sanctions as a key driver for the accelerated transition to payment sovereignty and the creation of an independent financial infrastructure. A comprehensive analysis of statistical data reveals the specifics and mechanisms of the banking sector’s adaptation. The study’s results can be useful for banks and regulators developing strategies for payment infrastructure modernization and financial stability under ongoing external restrictions. |
