The article presents the results of the analysis of economic discrimination in the wages of women in Russia. Despite the general modern social trends, the demographic situation and the shortage of personnel in the labor market of the Russian Federation, women still face economic discrimination in wages every day. The article studies the wage gap between men and women for the period 2017-2023 in the context of areas of economic activity, gender, and type of employment. The trend of a significant difference in wages even in “women’s spheres” persists throughout the analyzed period and is the highest in the field of culture and sports — up to 44.58%. The excess of hourly wages of men over women by types of activity for 2021 averages 12%. The wage gap increases with age: the maximum differences are observed in the period of 35-59 years the time of the highest professional activity and at the same time the greatest burden on women in caring for children and relatives, which is emphasized by the data on the low level of employment of women with children under 3 years old in the Russian Federation (less than 50%) and the amount of time that women spend on average on unpaid work at home and caring for family members (18% of their life time). Statistical analysis confirms that economic discrimination against women’s labor in Russia has non-economic causes; it is stereotypes, structural discrimination, misogyny, childbearing, and the traditional assessment of the role of women in society that influence their wages.
