DEVELOPING CHINESE STUDENTS’ INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS USING CASE STUDY METHOD IN QUIZLET DIGITAL APP

| Annotation: | The relevance of the study stems from the need to adapt foreign language and intercultural communication teaching methods to the mentality and national characteristics of Chinese students, a finding supported by a number of national and international researchers. The aim of the study is to test the effectiveness of the developed method for teaching intercultural communication skills to Chinese students using the case study method and the Quizlet digital app. The study’s hypothesis is that a combination of the case study method and the Quizlet digital app will be more effective in teaching intercultural communication skills to Chinese students. The study has utilized specially developed socially oriented cases necessary for successful communication in an intercultural environment, as well as a questionnaire and tests for assessing course completion. The results of the study confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method, with a significant increase in student success rates. Interactive case study-based learning is more personalized and convenient for each student, combining both in-class and out-of-class activities. The developed methodology reflects the national specifics of teaching Chinese students, as its development and implementation are conducted in collaboration with a native speaker of Chinese culture and language, ensuring its closeness to the students’ mentality and national traditions. At the same time, the developed implementation algorithm is also applicable to other categories of students, provided their sociocultural needs are clarified. A promising area for further research is to improve and scale the integration of traditional and digital methods of teaching foreign languages and intercultural communication, taking into account the students’ psychological types and their actual needs. | ||
