Annotation: The article examines the relationship between the development of academic olympiad culture and the professional competencies of foreign language teachers within the context of regional education. The study theorizes five stages in the evolution of the olympiad movement from early mathematical competitions to a modern digital and integrated model. It also examines how the strategic position of the Far Eastern Federal District in the Asia-Pacific region shapes the educational needs of Primorsky Krai. The study outlines an updated professional profile for an olympiad teacher-mentor. This profile is based on a historical and pedagogical review, a content analysis of regulatory documents for the All-Russian Schoolchildren’s Olympiad and statistical analysis of regional data from 2019 to 2026. The findings indicate that this profile integrates four interconnected clusters: methodological-theoretical, foreign language for professional-communicative, information-communicative and universal competencies. The olympiad format serves a dual purpose. It acts as a pedagogical technology for working with high-achieving students and supports teachers’ continuing professional development. The scientific novelty involves a theoretical substantiation of the interdependence between regional olympiad movement dynamics and the level of professional readiness of foreign language teachers to prepare students for intellectual competitions. The findings can be used to design teacher training programs, develop regional olympiad models and shape educational policy in the Far Eastern Federal District. Future research will focus on developing diagnostic tools to assess teachers’ readiness for olympiad practice and designing online support formats for students in remote areas.
