The article has reviewed the trends of development of agricultural production in the Russian Federation. The production of plant-growing and cattle-breeding products has been analyzed in the context of agricultural companies, population farms, peasant (farm) farming, and the Russian Federation entities. The main problems affecting the development of agricultural production have been revealed. The importance of providing the food safety in the Russian Federation has been underlined. The value of the federal target programs of the state support of development of agricultural production at the mo­dern stage has been presented.
