Currently, more and more people are beginning to accept the ideas of education throughout life (lifelong learning). Many are faced with the need throughout life not only to improve their qualifications, but also to change their profession and sphere of activity. Since the duration of active life has increased markedly throughout the world, the problem of employment of older people has arisen. Some of them are also ready to learn — both for the development of new earning opportunities, and for the satisfaction of their cognitive and intellectual needs. However, not only schoolchildren and students, but also adults, as a rule, are not ready to develop their own educational program, corresponding to their individual inclinations and characteristics of life situations. The article discusses the need and the possibility of using the method of interactive questioning for tutorial support of older people. Particular attention is paid to modern ideas about the role of questions and questioning in the process of learning and the problems that arise when it is used in tutoring. Authors present the concept of the three intentions of questioning which are most essential for the organization of learning. The training for students at the Moscow State Pedagogical University, developed on the basis of the interactive questioning method, is described, and the results of the students’ tutor support for the students of Silver University are presented. The experience of using interactive questioning methods confirms that these methods are applicable and effective in working with people of pre-retirement and retirement age. Posing their own questions in the situation of uncertainty increases their interest in educational content, actualizes their own experience in solving problems, helps them overcome confusion and begin to act independently.
