The article is devoted to the consideration of the employment of graduates from the standpoint of the importance of higher education for the organization of successful employment of young people. The intellectual and technological potential of the country, an increase in the rating positions and competitiveness of universities, the growth of the national economy, and the progressive development of society depend on the productive use of the educational potential and professionalism of young personnel, their timely employment. Risk-generating areas and factors that prevent graduates from getting a job after graduating from a university are characterized in the context of a mismatch between the educational services market and employers’ requests, the fragmented formation of skills for employability of young specialists in educational and extracurricular activities, and insufficient enrichment of knowledge related to designing an image of the professional future. In order to minimize the problems of graduates’ initial entry to the labor market, a cross-curricular program for shaping the culture of employment for university students has been developed that allows timely navigation of possible ways of optimal employment of young people and, if necessary, assistance and support in value judgment of professional plans and intentions to implement the obtained education. The developed program strengthens the content of professional training with the aspect of targeted formation of the culture of employment of university graduates in extracurricular activities in the areas of vocational guidance and employment of graduates of the Orenburg State Pedagogical University. Strategies (active content acquisition, information interaction, scaffolding, self-presentation, reflexive self-government, real-time change) and tactics (identification, support, assistance, emphasizing positive information, contrastive analysis, pointing to the future) determining the development of the competitive advantages of university graduates and targets in the search for a job in their specialty are determined.
