The modern world is characterized by a change of technological order (TO), a gradual transition to the sixth technological order and, as a result, to a new quality of life on a global scale [1]. The diversification of the domestic economy and the entry into a new TO should be carried out on the basis of high-tech enterprises that can ensure the emergence and spread of innovations in foreign and local markets. The article is devoted to the study of the innovative development of high-tech machine-building enterprises of the Russian Federation in the conditions of the sixth TO. The essence of the concept of “high-tech” is revealed. The authors assess the importance of the high-tech engineering industry in the modern economy. The analysis of the share of innovative goods, works, and services in their total volume of mechanical engineering in Russia is carried out. In addition, the share of mechanical engineering organizations that carry out technological innovations in the total number of surveyed organizations in the Russian Federation is determined and analyzed. The authors evaluate the influence of innovations on ensuring compliance with modern technical regulations, rules and standards in mechanical engineering. A table has been compiled reflecting the number of advanced production technologies developed and their use in 2020. The study analyses Russia’s current situation in transition to a sixth TO in comparison with developed countries of today. Recommendations for the development of high-tech enterprises of mechanical engineering are proposed. The priority goals of Russia’s economic development until 2036 are outlined. The forecasts of the Ministry of Economic Development (MED) of the Russian machine-building sector are given. The main types of ensuring the innovative and technological potential of the machine-building industry are considered. The reasons for the need to comply with the sixth technological order are disclosed.
