Where to invest your free cash: invest in time-tested areas, or bet on new and promising industries and market segments? This is the main issue that a modern investor solves. A growing industry is always an opportunity to get a return of hundreds of percent. However, such investments are associated with great risks due to the lack of statistical information about the retrospective development of this segment in the past. Additional risks of investing in growing industries include the possible lack of current income for a long period of time, investor sentiment, which greatly affects the quotes of companies, as well as various technological problems and entrepreneurial failures. Most often, growing industries are pioneer ones, since they relate mainly to the latest high-tech industries that appeared relatively recently, in the era of the scientific and technological revolution, and have become widespread in recent decades. The article identifies such key catalysts for the development of growing sectors of the economy as the development of innovative technologies, the emergence of mobile gadgets, Big Data, changes in legislation, and the transformation of the lifestyle of the population. The paper considers the list of growing sectors of the economy in the technical and digital spheres for the next nine years, which included, among others, green energy, online education, cloud and additive technologies sectors. It is concluded that the shares of growth companies have a significant potential for increasing profits in the near future, subject to the conditions of broad diversification of the investment portfolio over a long time horizon. |
