The article is devoted to the problem of the number of full-time and part-time students in the system of secondary vocational education in the USSR in the second half of the twentieth century. The authors carry out a statistical analysis of the array of factual data presented in official sources. The article analyzes the number of students studying in secondary vocational education institutions full-time and part-time, according to the information provided in the statistical collections of the USSR. The analysis of these collections is systematized according to the stages of development of the system of secondary vocational education: stage 1: 1949—1958 — the stage of restoration of the system of secondary vocational education in the post-war period; stage 2: 1958—1974 — the stage of intensive growth of the Soviet system of secondary vocational education; stage 3: 1974—1991 — the stage of stabilization of the Soviet system of secondary vocational education. Throughout the study period, training in secondary vocational education institutions was carried out both off-the-job (full-time form) and on-the-job (correspondence and evening departments). The analysis of the number of students studying according to these indicators allows us to conclude that at the first and third stages, the number of students who studied fulltime prevailed. Moreover, at the first stage, the number of fulltime students was 4—7 times greater than the number of correspondence and evening students. While at the third stage, their numbers differed by no more than two times. The analysis of statistical collections for each of the selected periods of the secondary vocational education system in the second half of the twentieth century is important for the further prospects of the development of the modern system of secondary vocational education.
