The article examines the portrait of the orientalist at the socio-normative, research, and practical levels. The training of Chinese-speaking orientalists has been in great demand in the last decade. The spheres and areas of application of such specialists have great development potential. In accordance with the educational standards of different generations, the field and object of professional activity of an orientalist, types of his professional activity, tasks and communicatively determined competences of such a specialist at the level of general cultural, general professional and professional competences are highlighted and analyzed. On the basis of this analysis, conclusions are made that the profession of oriental studies has undergone many changes during its development, especially in the areas of its application at the level of professional tasks. The article compares the related areas of training: “Foreign regional studies” and “Linguistics” in parallel. The similarities and significant differences in the educational programs for training graduates in these areas are identified. At the research level, the profession of orientalist is described on the basis of the analysis of researches of scientists-specialists in international relations, sociologists, art historians, economists, and psychologists. At the practical level, the perception of the profession of an orientalist is based on the survey of teachers, employers, graduates and students in the fields of Oriental and Africana Studies, Foreign Regional Studies, and Linguistics. The author concludes that when teaching Oriental languages to orientalists and regionologists, it is necessary to rely on a special set of approaches, strategies and technologies, which differ in their content from those methods of teaching that are applicable to the training of linguists. |
