THE MAIN VERSIONS OF CRIMINAL CASES ON CRIMES IN THE TIMBER INDUSTRY

Illegal logging, illegal timber trafficking, smuggling of timber and timber products, corruption — all these and other criminal acts in the timber industry constitute a whole complex of crimes, the investigation of which involves a large number of representatives of the law enforcement system. The article, based on the author’s approach to understanding the essence and list of crimes in the timber industry, offers the main typical investigative versions in criminal cases of this category. Special attention is paid to the expert opinion of the respondents interviewed as a result of this study, as well as to the critical analysis of the available judicial and investigative practice in criminal cases of crimes in this area. Examples of decisions on criminal cases of corruption, official and other crimes in the sphere of the timber industry are given. The relevance of the work lies in the absence of a comprehensive and systematic approach to combating crimes in the timber industry, the absence at the methodological level of an optimal program for the nomination and verification of versions for this category of cases. The author concludes that the existing investigative practice does not take into account the whole variety of crimes in the studied sphere of public relations; the proposed versions are based on the fact that these crimes are not isolated facts of illegal logging and trafficking of timber and timber products, but, as a rule, organized criminal activity, often with a corruption component; in the future, there is a need to develop a separate forensic methodology for investigating this category of criminal cases.
