CURRENT PROBLEMS OF INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION OF FOREIGN STUDENTS IN THE CONTEXT OF INTERNATIONALIZATION OF HIGHER EDUCATION

The article discusses the problems of intercultural communication of foreign students in the context of the internationalization of higher education, which determines the purpose of the article: to characterize the state and problems of the development of intercultural communication in the university educational process of foreign students, who in modern conditions are the main force and channel of international exchange and cooperation. To achieve this goal, research methods were used: polling, testing, and observation. This problem is considered taking into account the increasing importance of the process of internationalization of the educational space of universities. The characteristics of the basic concepts of the problem under study are given: intercultural communication, internationalization of education, foreign student, cultural empathy, intercultural adaptation, etc. The main approaches to the study to substantiate the problems of the development of intercultural communication of foreign students in the context of the internationalization of education are reflected. The results of comprehensive monitoring of intercultural communication of foreign students (using the example of the Qiqihar University of the People’s Republic of China) reflect the main characteristics of the current state of intercultural communication, on the basis of which the following conclusions are formulated: foreign students come to China to learn Chinese and achieve subsequent academic and work goals, as well as to get acquainted with the Chinese culture; foreign students are able to openly communicate with people from different cultures, respect other people’s behavior, build good interpersonal relationships, and recognize the need to understand the behavior of another people; adaptation of international students in the educational and socio-cultural sphere correlates positively with their level of Chinese and promotes their cultural identity. Internationalization of higher education provides an opportunity for young people to acquire and improve intercultural communication skills.
