FORMATION OF UNIVERSAL, TRADITIONAL RUSSIAN AND NATIONAL VALUES THROUGH THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE COURSE FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

| Annotation: | The article analyzes the practical experience of the Department of English Language and Professional Communication of Pyatigorsk State University (PSU) in the context of implementing the tasks of forming universal, traditional Russian and national values in university students in the process of learning a foreign language. The relevance of the problem for the modern multicultural, multi-confessional, multi-ethnic Russian society in general and the North Caucasian region in particular is substantiated due to the rethinking of social values and the assertion of such values as patriotism, citizenship, unity, equity, family and others as priorities. The key role of education in forming the system of values is determined. The ways of updating the content of higher education for forming a system of values are identified (on the example of the course “Practical Course of a Second Foreign Language”). The content of the student’s book “Caucasus Diversity” developed by the author’s team of the Department of English Language and Professional Communication of PSU from the point of view of its potential for the formation of a system of value orientations in the students of the direction of training “Linguistics” is analyzed, and the experimental work on its implementation in the educational process is described. It is revealed that within the framework of the discipline “Practical Course of a Second Foreign Language” the tested textbook contributes to the solution of the set tasks, because it provides students, along with subject knowledge, familiarization with universal, traditional Russian and national values. The functionality of a foreign language teacher at university and content of their work to familiarize students with the value system within the framework of the taught disciplines are determined. | ||
