Currently, many studies are devoted not only to the
development of narrow professional (hard) skills, but also universal
(soft) skills, among which the development of emotional
intelligence (EQ) or emotional competence is distinguished. The
purpose of the study is an experimental scoring of the level of
emotional intelligence development in students majoring in economics.
The study conceptualizes the development of emotional
competence on the basis of emotional intelligence correlated
with universal skills. The level of emotional intelligence is determined
on a test battery for emotional intelligence self-scoring.
The obtained results of EQ self-scoring are analyzed, including
contingency tables and taking into account the intercultural context.
The average level of EQ was revealed, characterizing the
respondents as communicative, positively perceiving their own
and other people’s emotions, but having cultural peculiarities.
The influence of the “parental culture” determining the degree of
EQ expression is confirmed. The most significant are test 1 (Are
you emotionally literate?), 7 (Are you making the most of yourself
at work?) and 8 (Is your relationship in danger of flooding?).
On the one hand, the study helps to understand the psychological
characteristics of students. On the other hand, the tests are didactic,
allowing for self-scoring of their emotions for the purpose of
further improvement; the use of English contributes to the adaptation
to an intercultural environment of both Russian-speaking
students planning to study abroad and foreign students, reducing
stress while completing them. In general, the development of
emotional competence, necessary in the process of adaptation in
an intercultural environment, can already start during university
studies, regardless of the chosen direction and with subsequent
improvement in a changing external context. |
