The article presents the results of a study of the
possibilities of the online marathon as a modern educational
technology. The essential characteristics of online marathons
are studied, including: thematic focus, time constraints, providing
answers about completing tasks, and the presence of a community
of participants. Possible grounds for classifying existing
marathons are outlined (subject matter, duration, accessibility,
features of interaction between participants, venue, availability
of payment/awards, etc.). As part of the study, a content analysis
of online marathons presented on the educational services market
was carried out, including the study of the subject, duration,
typology of tasks and other parameters of online marathons.
The study presents the results of a survey of 60 respondents
participating in online marathons of various directions. The
motives of participation in online marathons are considered
(the opportunity to communicate with like-minded people, deepening
and specialization, organization of interesting leisure),
characteristics that attract participants (uniqueness of content,
community formation, the opportunity to receive an award, systematic
work, etc.), as well as the reasons for leaving the marathon
(difficulties in time planning, unforeseen circumstances,
inconsistency of content description of the marathon, etc.).
Among the possible risks and difficulties in organizing online
marathons, the following are noted: different levels of preparedness
of participants, the formation of dependence on social networks
and gadgets, entailing health disorders, a false sense of
expertise after passing the marathon, insufficient qualifications
of the organizers (relying on their practical experience).
As recommendations for the use of online marathons in the
educational process, the following are proposed: providing the
theoretical basis of the marathon, systematic support of participants
by the marathon organizers, intensity and flexibility of completing
tasks, relevance of the information provided, and possibility
of accessing materials after the completion of the marathon). |
