FACTORING: THE EVOLUTION OF THE CONCEPT AND CONTENT

The article presents the results of a study of the development of the conceptual apparatus of the factoring theory. The aim of the study is to confirm the hypothesis of the predominance of the functional (operational) approach in determining the definition of factoring. The methodological basis of the research is the provisions of the theory of economic systems, semantic analysis. In substantiating the hypothesis, systematic, targeted, functional (operational) and instrumental approaches and a logical method were used. In the study of trends in the development of factoring in Russia, the methodology of economic analysis was used, in particular, methods of classification, comparison, horizontal and vertical analysis. As a result of the conducted research, the main factors that influenced the development of factoring in Russia in the last decade were identified, as well as the reasons for the divergence of scientists’ opinions in determining the period of the origin of factoring in the global economy. Based on the semantic analysis of the definitions of factoring, the main approaches to their formulation were identified. Taking into account the historical development of factoring activities in the global economy and trends in the practice of this type of business in Russia, the definition of factoring is formulated. The proposed clarification of the said definition on the basis of a functional (operational) approach has a scientific novelty. This proposal has theoretical significance for the development of factoring methodology. The practical significance of the research results lies in achieving compliance of the content of the definition of factoring with the composition of operations actually carried out by the factor at the present time and in the future. The obtained results can serve as a basis for further theoretical studies of the basic elements of the theory of factoring. In the practice of applying theoretical concepts of factoring, a clear understanding of the functional factor, which is contained in the definition of factoring, plays an important role.
