MOTIVATION FOR CHOOSING AND MASTERING A MASTER’S PROGRAM AT A PHYSICAL EDUCATION UNIVERSITY

The modern requirements for working with highly qualified athletes include the high qualifications of sports coaches, which is specified in the State Educational Standard “Coach”. In this regard, coaches must have a master’s degree in sports, which is awarded after completing a master’s program at a physical education university. The experience of training masters at the Siberian State University of Physical Education and Sports demonstrates the high professional achievements of those who have completed their master’s programs. The article presents the results of a study on motivation for enrolling in a master’s program, the choice of a master’s program, and the mastery of the program material. The survey revealed the content of motivation for enrolling in a master’s program, the choice of a master’s program and its development in the process of studying at the university. The survey was conducted among 65 undergraduates from the Siberian State University of Physical Culture and Sports (30 first-year students and 35 secondyear students), specialists (sports coaches). The article presents the content of motivation of undergraduates. The article identifies the motives and factors that influence the choice of a master’s program and the direction of study. The main motive for entering a master’s program for specialists (sports coaches) is to improve their professional skills, which demonstrates their understanding of master’s education. Another significant motive is obtaining a master’s degree, both for specialists and graduate students. The choice of a master’s program is usually determined by the program’s supervisor. Mastering the master’s program does not cause difficulties for undergraduates, which indicates their preparedness and the professionalism of the teaching staff.
